Messiah Carpentry Profile

Years of experience: 20+ years of woodworking experience

Where did you learn your skills?
Initially, I was self taught, when I became serious, I apprenticed under a great woodworker. The skills taught by patient mentors bring great gain, and as such, I have taken to teaching a few promising young men the skills they need to become great craftsmen.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mostly from service to the LORD, I feel a deep appreciation for the fact that the chosen skill of Jesus was one of creation during his short 33 years with us. That being said, I pray about each work, and endeavor to show as much of the natural gifts that God has blessed me with in my work. Each piece is meant to bring honor and glory to God...after all, that is what I was placed here to do. I strive to craft creations that give honor to our creator.
What Furniture styles/periods do you work in?
Some Mission Style, mostly contemporary and I love Queen Anne. When the opportunity presents itself, I will attempt almost anything that is a challenge.
What differentiates your work?
I like to think that my work is unique. God created all mankind, and if we reflect on that for a moment it's not just the nearly 6 billion people on the face of the earth, but the compounded accumulation of mankind throughout history... that's a lot of people! Each is unique, and the creator knows the most intimate details of his creation. I enjoy this microcosm of relation with my woodworking, as I create each piece, I think about it, and try to connect with it in some way. For example, I might pray for the owner, or imagine it bringing someone great comfort (Like a good piece of furniture, that "just fits"), then I hope the future owners remember that it was a Christian carpenter who built it, and give glory to God.
