How many years have you been
woodworking? 9 years professionally, but really since I
was a kid.
Where did you learn your
skills?
The artist's eye
was inherited from both sides of my family.
The engineering came through college and the
specific applications to woodworking were
taught initially by my grandfather and honed
through personal study and experimentation.
Where do you get your
inspiration from?
My work starts at
the tree and continues through the finished
product. Hence, the designs sometimes
reflect the log itself; sometimes they
reflect design principals of history. I feel
the best works incorporate parts of each.
What Furniture styles/periods do you work in?
The simple lines of Arts & Crafts Mission
and Shaker principals are combined with
touches of natural elements and often with
multiple wood species in the same project.
The results often tend toward contemporary
styling. Is ContempoDutchCraftsman a style
or period?
What differentiates your work?
Mixed Wisconsin Hardwoods. Reclaimed Woods.
Urban Forestry. Sustainability. If it
doesn't grow within 50 miles of our sawmill,
solar kiln and shop, chances are we haven't
done that.
